On Saturday October 10, 2009 the International Memorial Committee for the Soviet Union and the city of Zaporizhia will unveil a monument to Mennonite Victims of Tribulation, Stalinist Terror and Religious Oppression.

The monument will be located on the main square of Khortitsa, centre of
the first settlement of Mennonites in tsarist Russia.

The monument will honour the memory of all Mennonite victims of Soviet
rule,
while acknowledging the faith and relationships that comforted and
sustained
Mennonites. The monument will share the Mennonite story with
the children and grandchildren of the victims, and with citizens of the
Former Soviet Union, in
order to combat intolerance and oppression in
the world today.

For information on how you can donate to the memorial please see "Donations" tab.

To register to attend the memorial and for information on the Mennonite Heritage Cruise please see the "Travel and Accomodations" tab.

“When your children ask their fathers in time to come,
saying ‘What mean ye by these stones,’ then ye shall
answer them,That the waters of Jordon were cut off
before the ark of the covenant of the Lord. . . .
And these stones shall be for a memorial unto
the children of Israel for ever.”

Joshua 4: 6-7.
